Hi,

I am using a MBA 2011 13" i5 and everytime I use Skype video the MBA fan reaches after a while 6500rpm which is really loud.

Is this really normal that Skype is that resource hungry?

Has anyone tested how the fan behaves with iChat or Facetime?

I wonder if there are any tweaks for Skype. e.g. changing the options within a file that the video you record is only 15fps instead of 30fps, or that the resolution is smaller.

Yes, Skype is a resource hog. My 2010 U-MBA goes from 40C to 80C running Skype, with CoolBook I can get it down to 72C with fans spinning about 4K.

Skype will do that. There may be a way to cap the framerate or resolution, but normally that's just dictated by your upload speed.

I wonder why Skype is so hard on the CPU. What I have read Skype works much better under Windows.

Even the iPad without any fan and a slower CPU can run a Skype video chat without a problem.
