Hello all. I recently had the data portion of my iPhone (2G/EDGE) plan removed. Unfortuntely, I am not unable to send or receive text messages. I am having a very hard time believing this is just the "way it is" because any number of phones can use SMS without having any sort of data plan.

Any solutions so I'm able to once again send texts on my iPhone without having to sign up for the data plan? Thanks.

No data plan, OK... but you still have a voice/minutes plan? As long as you have a voice + minutes plan, you should be able to send/receive texts.
