I just got an external monitor and i have it set up with my MBP. I was wondering if it was safe to use the internal speakers when the lid is closed. The speakers on my monitor are terrible lol. Plus i would like to avoid less cordage. Thanks.

space reasons. and i know it works, but is it alright to do? lol

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I had a similar question. If I hooked up external speakers to my MBP via the headphone port, would I be able to play music when the laptop is closed? Is there a way to disable the sleep function when you close the laptop?

Yes it will play and use InsomiaX to disable sleeping. If you have an external monitor connected then you don't need InsomiaX.
