Using still images in Final Cut Express?

So I am wanting to make a simple video in Final Cut Express using a single still image and an audio file I made. I thought I could rightclick my image and adjust the duration to match the audio file, but when I do that, the image doesn't seem to stretch accordingly and the project gets messy. Is there a better way to extend the image's length to match my audio file, which is a bit over 11 minutes long?

I appreciate the responses :)
