I am running a mac mini with the 27" thunderbolt display. I usually just connect a MacBook Pro I have to an ethernet switch with a ethernet adapter. I then share the screen and transfer files.

I was thinking it might be better to connect the mac mini to the display using the extra thunderbolt port on the display, that way I would have a magsafe connector and a thunderbolt connection for the MacBook Pro. I wouldn't need the ethernet-thunderbolt adapter anymore.

I played with it, and I can get the display to work fine, just having trouble getting the MacBook to connect to the LAN through the thunderbolt port.

Anyone have any idea if this setup would allow me to attach the MacBook pro to the local network?

You can only have one computer connected to the display at any one time.
