So i'm most likely getting the new 17" Alienware Gaming Laptop, and i'm gonna use that + a gaming monitor for all the gaming, but i'd love to be able to use the MBPR as a display for skype / facebook / steam chats and so on.

Through some research theres no input on the screen, but what if i use some wireless app or something? i don't need 2880x1800 res, i just need it to display all my social media.

Thanks

Over Wifi, yes this is possible. For Gaming, its not good enough.
Wired solution, no. The thunderbolt and HDMI controllers are built such that this is not possible on a low level solution (for this purpose lower level is better).

If you simply need to extend your screen space for tasks such that you describe, look into www.synergy-foss.org a beautiful solution. Its a solution that lets you control multiple computers with a mouse and keyboard, in a multi monitor style way. I love it.
