Here is what I am observing with my Razor Thunderbolt Dock and my M1 MAX MacBook Pro. (1) With the MagSafe charger disconnected and the only power source connected to my MacBook Pro being the upstream connection to the Razer Thunderbolt dock, my MacBook Pro is not charged by the Thunderbolt Dock when the MacBook Pro is completely shut down. Upon booting up the MacBook Pro with the Razer thunderbolt Dock attached, my MacBook Pro does not charge until the internal battery drops below 80% or until a heavy power drain is made on the MacBook Pro, e.g. using Final Cut Pro and video editing. (2) If I have both the Razer Thunderbolt dock and the MagSafe charger connected to the MacBook Pro, the orange LED on the MagSafe connector is illuminated but the MacBook Pro is not undergoing charging unless the battery level falls below 80%. In summary, with the Razer Thunderbolt Dock connected to the MacBook Pro, I see no reason to connect the MagSafe charger as my MacBook Pro will charge without it.
My main concern is that I not overcharge the MacBook Pro's batteries. I have optimize battery charging turned on in Preferences. I am currently using only the Razer Thunderbolt 4 dock to keep my MacBook Pro charged.
I have two questions: (1) Is there any reason to connect both the Apple MagSafe charging cable as long as the Razer Thunderbolt dock is connected to The MacBook Pro? (2) Is it harmful if both MagSafe charging and the Razer Thunderbolt dock are connected at the same time?
Thank in advance for any advice you can offer in using the Razer Thunderbolt 4 Dock with the M1 Max MacBook Pro.
