Using TV as Monitor, Mini DisplayPort to HDMI, Very dark

I have my MacBook Pro hooked up to my 50" HD DLP Projection TV, and the display on it is very DARK in comparison with my MacBook's display. It's fine when viewing TV programming such as our Dish Network hookup and DVD player, but when hooked up to my computer, all of the darks are much darker (such as my background which is a sunset over the ocean). Are there any controls to make this brighter? This also happens on our other 52" Projection HDTV.

Brightness is the responsibility of the external monitor, in this case the TV. If you can't adjust these controls on the TV, you're out of luck.
