Using unlocked iPhone in NYC: How?

I am interested in unlocking my iPhone mainly for use in New York City. I wanted to ask some questions first. Thanks for helping.


1.) Am I correct to assume that my only choice besided ATT is TMobile?


2.)TMobiles plans, including 3G data, are better than ATT's, but will I have to purchase a TMobile phone or can I get the SIM only?

Any usefull information is greatly appreciated.

2 USA Tmobiles 3G frequencys are not compatible with the iphone. So with Tmobile data you will only get 2G. About the sim card only Im not sure but I think you'd be able to pick up a sim only without purchasing a phone.
