Before my Caldigit dock and TB2-TB3 adapter arrives, i want to migrate data already.

Can I connect 2012 rMBP to 2018 MBP via USB-C to USB-A 3.0 cable? Or will i damage either

don't have ethernet adapters for either, wifi it is then

Why not use whatever external drive you're already using for your backups?

Going from my mac mini to my MBP, I simply did a new/fresh TM backup of the mini -- then used migration assistant while setting up the MBP to bring in the files.

If you’re doing it via wifi, set them up in a “computer to computer” network. Should work much faster. Still slow, but less slow.

i dont have any other cables available for a week or more - only USB-C to USB-A 3.0. So none of my backups are usable on the new machine as of yet
