Has anyone had unusually a bad experience with USPS this week? I mailed my amended tax forms on Saturday as certified mail. USPS said it was going to be delivered yesterday, now saying it’s taking longer than normal and just reached the distribution center today to where it’s supposed to go. Now tracking has been down numerous times this week so that’s been frustrating.. I also have a package that was supposed to arrive today but got an email from Amazon saying it’s going to be delayed.. checked tracking this morning and sure enough USPS said it was delayed in transit. I don’t know what’s going on but it’s been annoying this week..

The USPS isn't stupid. There is no point in rushing delivery of anything to the IRS, where it is going to sit on a desk for months.

And Amazon? Amazon is working hard to throw the USPS under the bus. Why rush their deliveries?

Interesting. So my mail got delivered yesterday, because it’s certified, they had to sign for it, right? Tracking said it was “left with an individual”.

You have to pay extra for the signature.

I did. They added the return receipt to the back of it. I didn’t realize there was a digital option and should’ve gone for that. So pretty much they have to mail me back that little green card but haven’t seen movement on it

Ahh I see, yeah that stinks. Of course they could have mentioned it! Sorry but I have no love for the USPS

Exactly. The digital option would’ve saved me about 2 bucks. You know the IRS is gonna take their sweet time mailing those cards back.

Sounds like you're new to using Return Receipt. Every time I've used it, there's been a three or four week interval between when I mailed off a tax return and received the green card.

Beware of using an electronic option: Email can be forged and hence might not be accepted by the IRS as evidence. And the post office keeps online records for only a "short" time. Two years hence when the IRS asks for your "missing" return, the post office likely won't have the electronic return receipt online anymore.

Definitely am! This was my first time actually, so that’s why I was confused on how the process worked at least. Glad to know how long it took, because I was starting to wonder if they really got it, because all tracking said was ‘left with individual’

Update: checked irs.gov on my amended return and it shows up there. Now will be interesting to see if they return that card or if they do..
