Has anyone had this happen to them before, and how long did it take to get delivered? I sent off my iPhone on Saturday to trade in and it was supposed to be delivered yesterday. Today, I get the message of “the package is delayed and will not be delivered by the expected delivery date. An updated delivery date will be provided when available.” So, what does this mean, that there was a mechanical failure on a plane or truck that’s causing the delay? I can’t imagine it taking the whole day though.. definitely nervewracking.

It means there was an unexpected delay. It could be anything. Last time it happened to me, the package was accidentally routed to the wrong distribution center. It took a day to sort out.

It will take at least a day, don't get too worked up about it.

As mentioned above, it's a delay. Mechanical failure, clerical error, weather, etc.

Annoying - but survivable.

As far as tracking your package, understand that what happens is that your package goes into a metal shipping cage with all the other packages going to the same place. The cage is scanned during transit, not your actual package. Sometimes, they don't get around to it.

On top of that, it's the holiday season.

I commiserate. The only reason I know any of this is because I ordered a package off eBay. Shipping window was three days from Houston, TX (I'm in Phoenix, AZ).

My package showed up two weeks and two days later. Two days of that delay was because when the destination annex processed my package they sent it to the wrong post office! That PO had to send it back to the annex so they could send it to the correct PO AND then it went out for delivery!

TIP: Sign up for email/text notifications. It seems to have some effect in their system that calls attention to your package so it gets moving again.

Oh wow. Thanks for the tip. Tracking finally updated and it looks like it’s at a distribution center an hour away from where it’s supposed to be delivered. Still shows that it’s “delayed” so it looks like they have to get it sorted and hopefully it gets delivered tomorrow or Saturday. Looks like it went to the wrong place too.

I have had the same issue with USPS in the past and it took a day or 2 extra.

I will do that in the future.
