A local school district is selling its old G3 iBooks to district employees (my mother). They want $200 for a;

G3 900MHz PowerPC 750
14" Screen
384MB Ram
40 GB HD
AirPort 802.11B

Are they asking for a reasonable price?

Thanks guys. Thats a good site there too. I guess it would be a decent buy. But... I would rather have something else :)

my dumb school just recycled like 20 of these exact comps...i took two and sold them for $100 bucks a piece...and they were in perfect working order...

I have had a 900 ibook. Tiger works just fine. Even with that ram. I would up it to 640. Either way its a great laptop. Don't listen to these guys.

$300 at least

I had a G3 900 (with the memory maxed), running Tiger, it was a little slow but not intolerable.

Good idea to find out what the optical drive is. Some of the older ibooks don't burn CDs, which is a drag. But that's a decent price for ibook w/ 14" screen.

Only thing is with G3 you run into limitations on video, I think you can't buy high quality video on iTunes Store with a G3 machine any more.

Thanks again for all the info guys. I think Im actually gonna get one. A playstation 3 can wait a few months.

i would say buy as many as you can, resell them on ebay for 50-100% markup, use the profits to get a macbook. $200 for any sort of functional laptop is a steal. shoot, a couple years ago, and i'm not even making this up, i sold a pentium 1 - 150mhz mmx laptop with 72mb of ram, 28k modem, 1.2gb hard drive, 1mb video card with about 7 stuck pixels in various colors with a flickery screen and a non-working battery for $200. i bought it about 4 years before that for $200. its almost like laptops have a minimum price point of $200 regardless. almost...

Well, my mother talked to a tech guy today at the school she works at and he said they will also be selling the G4 iBooks that the school district bought. So the iBook has been put on hold until they offer the G4's.
