Normally, I'm in a situation where I want to upgrade my iPhone to one that is more expensive but now I'm in the opposite situation and am unsure of the most advantageous way to trade in my iPhone 6 (64GB) (retails $649 outright from Apple) for the iPhone SE (64GB, retailing $499). I've had my iPhone 6 since it came out, so it's 18 months old. It has no damage, no scratches, and no faults except for some wear around the ringer/vibrate switch. I know it's not possible to profit from the trade-off but I'd like to know what you think is a fair price difference for me to "upgrade" to the less-expensive iPhone SE. I'm with AT&T but it seems like if I use their trade-in program, I'd only get around $220 at most for my iPhone 6. I don't know what Apple's trade-in program would offer. And I see my iPhone going for over $400 (though they are brand new) on eBay.

Is there a best way to get close to the value of the iPhone SE in my trade-in? How much should I expect to pay out to make the switch, and where will I get the best value for my iPhone 6?

Check Swappa. They have a good data graph on the price of your phone. I sold my iPhone 6 Plus for $515 and was able to buy the iPhone SE for $499.

iPhone 6 64gb usually goes for $300-400 used in my area (orlando Craigslist).

I personally don't think it's a good move to go to the smaller 4 inch iPhone from the 4.7 inch iPhone 6. The 4.7 isn't "huge" like the 5.5 inch.

Why do U want to go for the 5SE?

The iPhone 6 doesn't stutter as much as the iPhone 6 Plus. If performance is what u are after.

I only upgraded from the iPhone 6 Plus to iPhone 6s Plus cause of the lag(stutter) in the 6 plus. But the iPhone 6 4.7 doesn't suffer from it as much.

I have disliked the size of even the iPhone 6 since I got it. I can't reach the top of the screen with my thumb (the reachability feature is annoying when you have to use it as much as I do), I don't play games on my iPhone, and I don't read long articles on my phone so I really have no need for a larger screen. When I upgraded from the iPhone 5 to the 6, it was not because I wanted a bigger screen.

All I care about is small size, performance, camera/picture quality, and battery life (my iPhone 6 battery is the worst iPhone battery I've ever experienced while the iPhone SE is being praised for its battery performance). Overall, the iPhone SE beats the iPhone 6 in all of these categories that matter to me. And besides, my iPhone 6 has been giving me problems in a lot of ways: very very poor battery (it jumps down as much as 20% sometimes, it dies at >30% sometimes); it freezes and shuts down/resets randomly; it lags; and it's just a pain to use when all I really do is text, browse reddit, and Snapchat. I'd be in the market for a new phone regardless, but I definitely plan to get the SE now that it's an option that might cost me nearly $0 to upgrade to.
