Last friday I purchased a 1987 Ford F250 with 161k miles on it. I've been needing a truck for a while (I simply can't move dry wall with my TSX) and it was only $600. It runs good, is in good shape and has a really nice lift gate on the back. A perfect work truck.

It really fit my needs and at that price you really can't go wrong.. so I bought it.

However, I need to get plates for it. I'd never consider putting vanity plates on my car, just doesn't fit my personality.. however, a junker truck that was this cheap I would.

So I've been hitting up the ohio bmv site (www.oplates.com) trying to find one that I like, but with little luck. I'd consider "MAC NERD" and maybe "CHICO CA" (the town where I asked my gf to marry me and my favorite beer is made) but still not sure. I also might consider "SRA NVDA" but I dunno.

The truck is going to be used for construction and renovation purposes only... well, maybe I'll move some kegs of beer, but that's it. I checked "PBR ASAP" but its not available. :(

So who has vanity plates, what are they? Do you have any good ideas for a plate? Thanks folks!

Photos of this beast to come! :)

I've got vanity plates. It's fun but unless you want to pay 2x more for your license plate registration every year, it's not that great.

Right now I have "MKV GTI" on my '06 gti. I want to change it next year to "JU$TU$." JUSTUS was already taken so I needed to replace the S's with $'s. Its available, so no one go and take it.

See, I might have this truck for a year... maybe two... it's going to be a short lived thing. Plus the truck was so cheap, its just going to be fun.

It belonged to an old aviation company... and it has a beacon light and a "CAT" logo on the side.

I'm thinking about taking their logo of and putting a pirate flag on the side of it. I checked "ARRRRR" but it was unavailable. :(

I was always a fan of

3M TA3

Unfortunately, according to urban legend, that one was rejected after a lengthy review.
Actually, one time I took a tech support call from a guy who worked at the New York DMV, and he told me about that plate having been issued there recently. So I think that, at least in NY, it has slipped through the cracks here and there.

my personal favorite was a vanity plate I saw that read "bonfire."

get it? bonfire of the vanities? I'm still wondering if that's what they meant.

on another note, I saw a brand new Ferrari a while ago (a REAL rarity around here) that didn't have a vanity plate. That struck me as odd. If you're already shelling out 6 figures for the car plus the 4 figure monthly insurance premium, what's $35 for a vanity plate? It's such a showpiece car, you'd figure it would have customized plates...

We have what Illinois refers to as "personalized plates", which means that they have at least 1 number on them. Vanity plates have no numbers. Not sure why the difference. At least, that's how it was when we ordered them.

Some I've seen that I liked recently:

NE PRET
DSCPLN ME

It is tough to get a good one that isn't already used, especially if you want one that may be more popular (we tried to get RUNNIN L8 because we're runners and we're always late, but no go).

Hmm, if you're a drywall guy you could go with IM PLSTRD, although that could be misconstrued.

For general construction you could try ID NAILR or GOT WOOD, but those are probably used or banned.

My sister's plate is AUROR. :D

it's not a vanity plate, but my dad had an Escort GT with plate number EWQ-666. He lived in Lynchburg, VA at the time, home of heavily-christian Liberty University and a town with more churches per capita than any other in the US.

hehe...that car ran forever, too...200-some thousand miles before it gave up...

On my last software development job, I worked on a DMV system. The most interesting day was sitting around with a bunch of the programmers reading through the database of rejected vanity plates (each time a new request is rejected after review, it's added to the DB so it's automatically rejected if another person requests it in the future). Most were obvious, but some were hard to figure out.

My favorite banned plate was 8675309.

I'm surprised this would be banned. Does this mean all phone numbers are banned, or just ones from catchy 80's songs?

Another interesting twist. In Illinois you can apparently only have the number 69 in your plate if it's the year in which you are born. Not sure if it's an urban legend or not, but you don't see many 69's on Illinois license plates.

Albertsons is dead.

Well, at least half-eaten by the now-behemoth known as CVS. 340+ stores in CA alone!
If you want your prescription refilled over the phone without waiting in the phone queue, dial 8001 during the options.

Anyways, I'm hoping to get OMGWTF for a vanity plate once (if?) I get my new car.
