After updating my iMac 20", updates contained the airport 3.4 and pro something update, my iMac's safari, iCal, iChat, and just about everything except for iTunes will not either a, load or b, start up.

Oddly, iChat, although does not launch, is showing me online, others can see me but I can not talk to them. Also, although safari does not work, other web browsers do i.e. firefox.

I have ran disk repair and repaired the permissions but neither have made a change.

I have installed all these updates on my powerbook and it is running fine... I really don't want to do a system reinstall, could someone please give me some advice.

Thanks

Try disabling any new fonts you may have added. I found on my own system that after adding some fonts, most of my Apple Apps wouldn't startup successfully.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will remember to check that next time. I discovered that it turned out to be a corrupted preference file, not sure which one. All is well again. :)

moo

repair permissions too

that seems to be 99% of the problems I ever have with apps not launching

though deleting recent pref files is a good idea too
