My M2 MacBook Air (which is otherwise rather lovely) requires a restart almost every day (inasmuch as no browsers will work until I perform a rsetart). When I ask why the only responses I get are that restarting is a "good thing" which IS NOT an answer to my question. I do so remember Snow leopard with affection for it's inate stability...any views good people?

hard to tell from here what the problem is, but perhaps redo the wifi setup. or change your DNS settings. i'd focus on why the internet connection isn't happening... rather than simply rebooting every day.

also... if you open your macbook during the day, do you get online? might be something related to your router, or... your provider.

anyway, sure others here will have suggestions! good luck with it

Grateful for the reply. I'm, a 72 year old and no techie so really need any answers/suggestions to be on the cocker spaniel level of IT literacy. "Redo the wifi setup" and "change your DNS setting" might as well be in Urdu to me but, again, thanks for the kind response.

Thanks for the response. I confess to not having considered this approach -based on my experience of using Mac Store "geniuses" I have found them to be anything but...

i have called apple a number of times over the years (even when out of applecare), and have gotten excellent support, resolved some issues. certainly worth trying

When you say the browsers "will not work" does that mean the applications don't open? Or is it they just don't connect to the internet? If the latter, does it display any error message that you can post here?

And ... what version of macOS, and what browsers are you using?

Hello sir, hopefully I can give you some proper answers..
  1. I'd recommend you make sure all the system updates have been installed, new releases of macOS can be buggy at first if you bought your machine when Ventura was first released. Go to System Settings > General > Software Update and made sure theres nothing waiting and install them if they are. You should be (at the time of writing - on Ventura 13.4)
  2. Make sure the browsers themselves are up to date, Safari will update itself via software update, but in Chrome, just click Chrome > About Chrome, let it download and then relaunch it.
  3. In Chrome you can also reset it, theres a tab on the right hand sidebar on the About page that says 'Reset Settings' - click on that and follow what it says to restore it to defaults. Can sometimes fix a few problems.
