All other devices including M1 iMac are fine but upon last reboot my M2 MacBook Air is asking me to enter my MBA password. I do; the gear spins; then nothing. The first time I was asked I needed to enter my Apple ID password, then the MBA password, then the Passcode for my iPad. Subsequently only the MBA password is asked for.

I have logged out, repeatedly. I have rebooted repeatedly. In times past this has happened but with a few entries all was well. Now, no.

Help!

Decided to contact Apple. First I tried their chat. What.a.Waste.of.Time. The third time she asked what my problem was I excused myself with an 'OMG my cat just got run over!'
I then called. The first person gave up within 90 seconds and passed me to a second guy who mumbled to himself for a few minutes as I could here him clicking away, intermittently going, "Hmmmm." He was pleasant and was finally excited to tell me I had to update to Sonoma. I replied that things went well on my iMac he said he'd bump me to 3rd level support. I waited on hold for too damn long. Next guy was pleasant and immediately assured me he knew what to do - update to Sonoma. He was adamant that 1) it was not an uncommon problem (confirmed by my finding plenty of hits/no solutions in my own online endeavors), 2) that it was an inconsistent issue when I told him all was well on my iMac, 3) it doesn't really matter as in fact no services will be affected, and 4) he had no clue why Apple bothered with such a stupid process.

I give up and will try to get used to seeing the red badge on System Settings' icon in my Dock. I might be tempted to go ahead and update to Sonoma before the .1 update. :sigh:
