I finally got AppleCare on the phone because on my newly arrived Mac Studio, I'm unable to use Spotlight at all. I click on the symbol in the menu bar and nothing happens. I hit command space and nothing happens.
About 15 minutes into my session with the Apple tech person, he asked me to unplug one of my two identical Dell S2721sq monitors. That did the trick. I got Spotlight back. I plugged the second Dell back in and I've got Spotlight.
This did NOT happen, however, on the Mac Mini M1 I just got rid of for my new Mac Studio.
