I have just been scratching around in the disk utility and have discovered that my drive has hundreds of permission errors.

A few examples:

Permissions differ on ./private/etc/hostconfig, should be -r--r--r-- , they are -rw-r--r--
Permissions differ on ./private/var/db/netinfo/local.nidb/Clean, should be -rw-r--r-- , they are -rw-------
Group differs on ./private/var/run/utmp, should be 0, group is 1
User differs on ./Applications/Internet Explorer.app/Contents/Frameworks/MS Internet Library.cfm/Contents/Info-macos.plist, should be 0, owner is 501

I understand what this means but my Mac hasn't been displaying any of the problems discribed in the Apple knowledge base.

So should I click "Repair Disk Permissions" or just leave it as is? Any advice or further info on this would be appreciated.

System 10.2.1

does anyone know what causes this problem repeatedly? i used to repair my permissions every day because there was always something to be repaired (now i'm just sick of it). i get a lot of netinfodb permissions errors and ones on".". it does not seem to be messing anything up too badly (although i've had it kill my internet connection and my ability to use the keyboard in opengl apps). i'm not installing lots of new software and i no longer have IE on my computer (which i've heard is a big culprit). why the repeated errors? apple really needs to fix this.
