Verifying disk causes leopard to crash.

Every time I try to run disk utility and verify my disk. Leopard freezes up hard. What's going on?

does the OS freeze or just disk util? leopard takes a lot longer than tiger to verify permissions or verify a disk and weve got no idea why. just leave it to finish. takes about 5 mins for me.

8 minutes for me, used to be 5 under Tiger, guess they've added a larger amount of checks now.
