Verifying downloaded O.S.

Can a user verify the Operating system software downloaded. An example is sha256 hash?

What reason are you needing to verify the OS X/macOS download?

I verify by making a USB installer stick (my intention, anyway), and do a test install on a scratch disk. That verifies both the download and my USB stick.

The Apple store does not show all the downloaded O.S. which I have downloaded but have not installed so I want to know if I download the latest Catalina and want to fall back I will not be able to receive it from the Apple store so how would I verify its authenticity from other sources
