I placed the 5s order on verizon online with month to month service plan which costs about $85. I am wondering if I will be charged to activate the phone with other carrier SIM card instead of build-in verizon SIM card, or how to avoid $85 charge? Thanks for the help!

I did this. When you get the phone just call verizon and cancel the account before you turn on the phone. Put in your sim from the other carrier and your good. Side note, I got a bill with 1 day of service and activation fee but just call in when you recieve it and they will cancel it out.

:eek::eek::eek: Thanks for sharing it! It is useful for me.

Wouldn't Verizon want the phone returned since I'm assuming the OP paid the subsidized price and not the full price?

They charge you an ETF fee of $350. You end up saving $50 versus buying a full priced device only iPhone out right.

1] iPhone 16gb: $220
2] cheapest plan: $80/month + say $10 in tax = $90
3] ETF: $350

total= $650

Cost of new iPhone device only: $700 after tax

This is the verizon return policy.

I got my 5s today and called Verizon service care to remove the month to month plan withou any charge. Thanks, ronkuba! :):):)
