Hi

I am using a 4-5 year old Verizon Fios Actiontec cable modem/router. Model # MI 1424wr.

The cable modem is in one room, and the stereo is in the living room, at the other end of the apartment. Maybe 50 feet. We configured and connected an Airport Express through the stereo, hoping tp stream music from iCloud or music on my iPhone/iPad. The Airport Express, proved to be unusable. Constand dropouts during every selection.

The problem, I suspect, is the building's construction. The walls are poured concrete/cinderblock and steel construction, which I suspect is very bad for wifi transmission between rooms. The problem, I suspect is also not helped by the age of the router. I think the router is single band with a 2.5 GHZ signal, but I am not sure of the specs. It is 4-5 years old.

I have many questions.

1) Is there an overall viable approach that would allow streaming?
2) Would this require a more robust router, set up as a new network?
3) If item 2, is indeed the best approach, do I plug that router into the Actiontec router and if so, can I turn off wifi on the Actiontec router and have the new router handle all the wifi and if so how?

Currently, the wifi that we get through the Actiontec router is only for our IOS Devices. I have a color laser printer that is connected via an ethernet cable, into the Actiontec router.

When I get a new printer, I might like a wifi connection option, but that is nice and not critical.

I have a stereo that plays both Vinyl and CD's , Currently, I cannot play any of my music that is in iCloud, through the stereo, which is very frustrating. What si the best approach to take, given the problems brought about by the apartment's construction?

We would also like to consider an ATV, if we can solve the streaming issue.

Thanks in advance,

Jay
