iPhone 12 Pro Verizon BOGO deal - whats the catch?

Verizon has a Buy One Get One free deal. I heard they did away with phone contracts awhile back but whats to stop me from buying an iPhone, getting one free for opening a second line, then cancelling the second line within a short amount of time?

You’ll have to pay the phone off. They give you x amount of bill credits

You also have to sign up for a data package and a higher tier monthly rate for both lines.
If you stop early, you will be hit with the full remaining retail cost of the phone.

Exactly. It’s the same as a 2 year contract without them calling it a 2 year contract.

The old traditional contracts might not be there, but there are new ones (in the form of monthly payments and credits that are stretched out over a 2 year period) to take their place.

Can upgrade when want but would need to pay off remaining balance of device. You are paying full msrp of one device and getting credits on other.

Yes you can pay it off early but in order to get the continuing bill credits each month, you would need to continue service with the carrier.

All the carriers have got you locked into their network for 2-3 years nowadays....

Yes. Credits stop and don’t get full benefit. With the high trade in values still good deal even if want new device. Especially if trading in ip8 or X.
