Please help.
I would like to buy iphone 5 in San Diego and then use it only in Europe.
Is buying it from Verizon right choice?
is it possible to just go to their store and buy it without contract? No need to pay for data in US? Will it work with my european SIM card?
I will be there next week.
Thanks very much,
Cheers

Yes, a Verizon iPhone 5 is what you'd need (more info here).

To my knowledge, no, you can't get an off-contract iPhone 5 in the US yet.

Any reason why you don't just buy it in Europe if that's the only place you intend to use it?

re

it is much cheaper there :)
and on verizon web page is "Full Retail Price $649.99
with month to month service "
???
thx far any replies

Okay, gotcha. I checked out Verizon's website and, as you noted, it does appear that you can buy an iPhone 5 without a 2-year contract (aka month-to-month) so, if the full retail price is "much cheaper" than what you can get in Europe, that seems like your best bet. You may want to contact Verizon first, though, just to confirm that you can get an off-contract iPhone 5 from a physical store, as opposed to just their online store.

but when I tried to to order it on their web it was trying to sell me some data package even when ordering without contract... I am not sure that it is possible to buy ot from them without this sort of thing.
it is about 130 dollars less then Europe... at least worth considering. And it is a better version with more LTE bends
Does anyone ever tried buing a phone in US without a contract? :-D It is a common thing here.
Thanks for replies:)

Find someone that has a verizon account and see if they can purchase it like that for you full price.
If you dont have an account with them they wont sell it to you, they will want you to start a 2 year service with them and you will need a social security number etc...

Do you think they will have them on stock?

Yes, anyone with a verizon account can purchase one full price.
Doubt they will have them in stock but you can try some verizon stores and see if you get lucky.
If not they will have to order it and wait till it comes in.

Yes, you can try them and target also to see if they have any in stock.
They will try to charge you $50 more at best buy and target though. Also you can try radio shack but not sure if they will sell it without contract.
Just call up and contact all the places in your area that might have it and tell them you want it full price without contract.
