Verizon CDMA iPhone and Korea

I'm planning on buying the iPhone 5, which will probably be a CDMA phone for Verizon.

Provided that the same policies for the iPhone 4 will apply to the iPhone 5, will I be able to switch to another carrier (SKTelecom, which uses CDMA/4G LTE) and how? I ask because I'm an international student who will be going back to my home country this summer and I would like to keep using the same phone.

As for unlocking the phone, a Verizon salesperson told me that after six months, I can ask Verizon to unlock the phone for me.

Many CDMA operators won't activate phones that they didn't sell. The first thing to do is to find out whether SKTelecom will let you use an imported phone.
