This is on a postpaid account using 4g lte data.
 
Yes, differences in the amount of material in the house. Between you and the tower will affect connection quality. I get different cell strength at different spots in the house. As I’m sure most people do. Many also have dead spots in their homes.

Going to have to test it out on the road instead. (Not driving)
 
Also cellular data speed is dependent on how many people in the neighborhood are accessing the same cell tower. In my town, it's fasts at dawn but often I get less than 1 Mbps after 6 pm when everyone in town seems to be trying to stream video over cellular after they get home
