Carrier Verizon Edge in Apple Store

I have only done Edge online and had the phone sent to me. I qualify for zero down. California taxes were on my first Edge bill - in a best buy or an Apple Store are taxes on the bill or do I pay them when I checkout at the store ?

The Verizon Rep couldn't find the answer and stated California is different

I paid the sales tax in the store when I signed an edge agreement at the Apple Store.
