Verizon get text while on phone call

i have had an iphone with At&t since launch. i am thinking of switching to verizon. i have been reading the news tonight that verizon will not have data and voice at the same time on lte iPhone.

while on a phone call do you still get text messages?

Yes but no iMessage because that is data

Yes I get them all the time while on calls. Both a SMS and iMessage via SMS. But it's blue.

Thought you could get text while on a phone with ANY company.

ok, so if i am on a phone call and someone else with an iphone sends me an iMessage it will come over to my iphone as a text message during the call?
what i dont want is to be on the phone and not get a text from an iphone until i hang up the call

Correct, as long as the message from from another iPhone, and not from an iPod touch, or iPad. If it was from an iPod touch or iPad, it would be delivered to you after you hang up the call.

If it was from another iPhone, iOS will try a few times to send as iMessage before giving up and sending as SMS.

This is annoying though because it takes a while. I can always tell when my friend that have Verizon are on the phone and I iMessage them because it gets stuck and finally sends via txt later...
