Do iPads have the same carrier issues as iPhones? If I buy the At&t model will it work on Verizon (provided I get the sim card)? Or do I have to get the Verizon model and get the new versatile sim card to use it with other carriers like the iPhone?

iPad Verizon iPad work on all Carriers?

If you are talking about the new iPad Air 2, there is only one version, no different versions for different carriers. AT&T, Sprint, and Tmobile use the new universal Apple SIM. If you want to go with Verizon, you need to get a SIM from them, and swap it in, but the hardware is all the same.
