Well I got an email from Verizon offering me a $100 gift card and an additional $50 off if I upgrade to a 16gb iPhone 4.

I have been waiting so long now for the iPhone 5 I am not sure if I should get it but $49.99 for an iphone seems like a pretty decent deal? I have until 9/30 to take the deal.

You realize the biggest cost in phone ownership is the contract/service fee? Yes, it's a great price, but realize they are clearing stock. If you think the iPhone 4 will serve your needs for the next 2 years and you have to have a phone NOW, go ahead and buy. If you can wait a month or so all signs point to a new iPhone in the next month or so.

I know they make their money on the contract but I am going to be signing a 2 yr contract with anyone who I re-up with, I just can't afford to spend $800 on an unlocked phone.

I have waited as long as I could before jumping into the smartphone world so I am just trying to decide what I should do phone and carrier wise??

Wait awhile. Verizon is offering early ups for many people right now in anticipation for their new fall lineup which will include the iPhone 5.

So are you eligible for an upgrade or not?
If they are offering you a $199 price on the iPhone 4 - $100 GC - $50 for upgrade = $49 then why wouldn't you be able to get an iPhone 5 for $199?

For $150 I would wait a month

Yes, my contract is up and I am currently month-to-month on Verizon.

You'll be signing a 2-year contract for a phone that's about to be replaced by a new one. IMO $150 for the newer one is worth.

iPhone 4 price is 199 dollars, now. But, it will be 99 dollars or less in a month.

So, you are getting iPhone 4 with 50 dollars discount. You are just getting it 1 month in advance.

If you need it now, buy now.

Sounds like I should wait for the iPhone 5. :D

Thanks for the advice, I was tempted but you have brought me back to reality.

You jump for an iPhone 4 now, you'll kick yourself the minute the iPhone 5 comes out in about a month. Trust me.

Why do people care so much about the contracts?? Do you really think you'll change providers in 2 years? I have no desire to. But to each their own.

It's a win/win to sign a contract... you save several hundred and if for some reason, you need to get out - you pay the difference.

That being said... I'd just wait for the new iPhone - so close.

The contract will cost a couple thousand at least. Don't be fooled by a few hundred in savings.

Don't be fooled in thinking you save a couple of thousand by not signing a contract. You still have to pay the same amount a month for service. This might be the stupidest argument out there. The only reason you don't sign a contract is if you want to jump around to different service providers. If you planning on sticking with one for the next two years, then don't be stupid and sign the contract.

as long as your current phone is working fine i would wait. it will be alittle more expensive than a $50 iphone 4 but it should be worth it.

not sure if you are anyone knows how the 100 discount works. the deal i saw was 100 gift card if you from regular phone to smart phone. but the catch is you don't get your money till you send in your old phone then they sen you the 100 gift card to use on anything.

This isn't logical. He will pay a couple thousand either way. Savings is savings either way.

I agree with those that say it depends on if you feel the iPhone 4 will adequately serve you for the next 2 years. Some people just have to have the latest...but some don't. Which are you?

OP your premium for the 5 will be $6.25/month ($150divided by 24 months). Is it worth it for you?

Agreed. People are so foolish with their contract thinking.
