I have been given a Verizon iPhone 4 (version 4.2.6(8E200)/model MC676LL/modem firmware 1.0.05) as a gift. I would like to use it offline, with as much functionality as I can get (SIP/VoiP, apps, browser usage). I'm thinking I need to "jailbreak" the device, and perhaps set it up so that it wouldn't get whatever updates it might get via wi-fi.
If I'm on track with that assessment, then I would appreciate someone pointing me in the correct direction in terms of jailbreaking. I assume I would go to the appropriate forum and read a sticky, but I did want to touch base here in the general forum and get verification on the general strategy.
The person who gave it to me asked me to take all the pictures and videos off the phone, which I have done via a USB connection to some folders in an Ubuntu installation, and I've backed those up to an external drive. That same data is in the former user's iCloud. So, absent the files "expiring" or becoming locked for whatever reason, I think I've taken care of that particular task. The files do open now in Ubuntu, but I haven't tested this in a Mac environment.
Thanks in advance for all your help, & best,
Scott
