Verizon iPhone can't switch lines for 48 hours? Seriously people???

Now they're saying 48 hours to switch lines. If I turn it on, the other line goes dead so I can't even turn it on or sync with iTunes. Had I known this, what was the point of preordering???

Doesn't the phone activate with a temporary number until porting is complete?
