I got an iPhone 4 (CDMA) today. It always shows like 3-4 bars, but its constantly flipping between 1x and 3G modes.... maybe every 30 seconds or so. I also have a Motorola Barrage through Verizon, it has no 3G issues at the same location. I already tried hard reset, PRL update, etc.. any ideas?

I could see the flipping behavior when its down to 1 bar or something, but why is it flipping with 3-4 bars on the display?

It was dumber than that... I needed to activate the phone :)

The included guide says just plug into computer, run iTunes, accept the Verizon customer agreement, etc.. and thats all you need to do to activate. The next steps were about setting up voicemail, etc..

I called tech support, they said it wasn't activated.. activated over the phone, did the PRL update again, seems to be working great right now.

I don't know what the reason is, but sometimes, they just don't activate in iTunes.
