Verizon Iphone pointless - Iphone5 a few months away

IF the Verizon Iphone is announced soon (meaning you could get it around March) it will be totally pointless! Flashforward a few months, come june we'll all be waiting for Iphone5/4S. Won't Verizon customers be feeling stupid to have bought old tech a few months before the next iteration is out? Makes no sense to release anything before the summer.
