Verizon iPhone X, “Activate with your Carrier Later”

I was able to purchase a Verizon version of iPhone X on Apple Store online - and prior to providing payment information, the screen let me choose between “Prepare for Carrier Activation Now” and “Activate with your Carrier Later”. I choose the option to activate later and the purchase went through.

Will I run into issues if I try to insert my AT&T SIM card later?

I read the thread about people using their friend’s Verizon credential when purchasing the Verizon version of iPhone X online.

But this situation is a bit different - or is it basically the same because I will need a Verizon account later?

This is the unlocked version of the iPhone. It’s been available since the first day in stores only. Seems like they are making a way to order it online available.

im on the same fence as you,i will probably buy tomorrow morning hopefully store pickup is available,when you look and read closely it says ‘when you receive your new iphone you need to insert an active sim card set up a new account with a carrier’.so probably any sim that is active will work

It is just like you would buy a Verizon model at the apple store as a device only (they don't ask you for your carrier info). It is unlocked from the start. Just take that sim card out and insert your AT&T sim and will work just fine.

I just picked one up, Verizon ordered online with no account info. No issues with t-mobile sim. I put it in before I powered it up the first time.
