Can someone here tell me if the Verizon iPhone X will still be able to be used with a sim from AT&T or T-Mobile even if it has a Verizon line of service in it? -OR- does that Verizon line of service in the phone need to be cancelled out before it will work? does the phone have something that allows you to select the service you want to use like for example the service already on the phone or the sim card that may be in the phone?

But from what I've read here is the Verizon model is unlocked?

Depends where you buy it. I think it is already unlocked if you buy it from Apple. If you buy from Best Buy, it locks to the carrier of the first sim you use. If you buy from Verizon, of course it’ll be locked to Verizon.

Verizon doesn't lock their phones at least 4G/LTE thanks to a compromise with the US and VZW when they bought some bandwidth a number of years ago.

Postpay Device Unlocking Policy
  • We do not lock most phones or tablets that are activated with our postpay service, either during or after the term of your service contract or Device Payment Plan installment sales agreement.
  • We do not lock our 4G LTE devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier.
  • We do not lock our 3G devices, other than our non-iPhone 3G World Devices. The simple code to program such 3G devices for use with another carrier is either “000000” or “123456.” If the user guide for your device does not provide instructions to access the programming menu, you can contact us at *611 from your Verizon Wireless phone, or (800)922-0204, for assistance.
  • The SIM cards used in our non-iPhone 3G World Devices are locked. We willl unlock those SIM cards at your request.

What if the phone has a line of service and you insert a sim from another carrier? What service would the phone then use?

It would work with the carrier as you would expect

So if the phone has a current Verizon line of service in it and I insert a sim from another carrier it will then use the service on the sim I just inserted or does the phone have a switch for me to select I'd wanna use the service on the sim? Sorry this is my first iOS / iPhone.

The Verizon iPhone X and all other Verizon iPhones that support LTE are unlocked. If you buy them full price form Apple, you can just insert any SIM you want and activate and use. However, if you but it from Verizon under a payment plan, it will have to activate with that SIM first and then you can use with any other carrier.

lt will work with any already activated sim as long as your Verizon account is current. As soon as your bill gets really late, Verizon will add the phone to a black list, from what l understand

Ahhh so the Verizon service is on a sim? Last time I had Verizon service it was in the device itself. I never knew that it being CDMA that Verizon's service is now on sim cards.

What if cancel the line of Verizon service and pay the phone off completely? Does or will Verizon still block / blacklist the device?

Verizon will not block or blacklist your device if you pay any service fees due and any device payments. You would have met your obligation to Verizon and are free to do anything with the iPhone once you have paid for it completely.

It used to be on the phone, I think, but I’ve had Verizon for a while and I’m pretty sure the service is on the SIM because I’ve swapped SIMs between phones before. Older generations didn’t come with SIM trays, I don’t think. If you pay off the phone and close your account, you’re fine. As long as you don’t owe them device payments for the phone itself, it’s completely fine, no matter what happens to your account because the phone comes unlocked.

Thanks a ton folks for all your info as this explains a lot given I had no idea that current Verizon service is now on a sim rather than the device itself. This is quite awesome to hear.
