I'm trying to setup mail.app to access a verizon account, but it's not reaching the account, when it tries to retrieve mail it just spins the activity indicator for a few minutes and then reports that the connection timed out.

The account settings are pictured below.

What am I doing wrong? How do I get it to retrieve my mail?

Okay, that works. Thanks.

But now it's saying the password I entered was incorrect, which is possible. Is it possible that it's giving me that error simply because ssl is not enabled?

The problem was ssl was enabled by default and also I had the password incorrect, so all works well now. I was setting up a Mac for my Mom, and every time I encounter verizon I'm reminded why I avoid them at all costs. The no ssl was just one in a long series of ways that verizon makes things tremendously and unnecessarily complex.

Verizon, feh.

Verizon problems?

I'm in the same situation, the only problem is I can't send out any e-mails and when i receive e-mails how come the mailbox symbol on the dock doesn't show the e-mails with a number, i have to first click on the e-mail symbol on the dock and put retrieve e-mails,why?
