Verizon or Apple Care for my first Iphone, the 6 Plus?

Hello,

I am ready to move from an Android phone to the Iphone 6 Plus, and I cannot wait. I think that I am going to purchase the 6 Plus at my local Apple store. I currently pay $10/month for VZ insurance. What are the advantages/disadvantages of VZ over Apple Care? Thanks for the help!
