Verizon or Virgin Mobile MiFi?

After some consideration, I've decided that I would like to purchase a MiFi device for my WiFi iPad.

However, I'm just a bit curious as to which 3G service is better.

Does anyone know how Verizon fares against Sprint in New York City, as well as Buffalo?

I will be in Buffalo from September until May for my final year of college, otherwise, I will be in NYC.
