Verizon out of contract Iphone 4s in Europe

Hi!

I'd like to get an iphone to work when I am in Europe where they have unlimited plans for like $10 a month (!!!!!!!).
In the event I would get an out of contract Verizon Iphone 4s would this be unlocked to work on GSM/ 3G networks in Europe? or not?
I know it wouldn't work on any other carrier here in the States but what about in Europe?

Based on what I have read on this forum, the Verizon 5/5s are GSM unlocked. Not sure about the 4S for Europe. You might as well buy the 5c GSM unlocked model available at the Apple Store with an entry price of $549 + tax.

yeah I might as well, though the offer on the 4s was $180...so......
