Currently my wife and I both have the iPhone 4 and have upgrades available.

We are discussing how we want to use those after they announce the 5S/C.

Right now she wants the 5 which I assume will follow the usual pricing structure and drop from $200 to $100.

I have a book book case and plan on getting the 4S which should become the default 'free' phone.

Does anyone know when these price changes occur or if they do announce the C will I even have an option to get the 4S?

The new pricing should take effect after the announcement. Unfortunately, the rumors are suggesting the 4S will be discontinued completely.

4S will still have some stock left over, you should still be able to get a 4S new or newly refurbished.

I HIGHLY advise against it because you are on Verizon. If you were on ATT, sure, their 4G/HSPA+ is plenty fast for a good experience. But the Verizon 3G you would be left with is night an day in comparison, you will regret not having LTE and your wife does.

AirDrop sending items between you and wife could be a nice bonus as well.
