If you are buying a new iPhone from the Apple site be aware that the $400+ savings that Verizon promises at the beginning of the sign up process may be whittled down to $280-$300 if your current plan is not elidgible for the full discout, and if you had unlimited data before your plan may be switched to $30 for 2GB per month. And also figure the $20 upgrade fee. All of those things happened to my plan when I signed up and I'd like to say Woof Wooof Woof Snaarl!!

I hear you. Always pays to read the fine print on any contract especially when you're dealing with phone carriers. Verizon is not alone with that practice.

Also with Verizon the trade in deals are usually through credits over 24 months. It seems like a lot of hoops to jump through for an extra savings of $5-10 per month. I don’t like the idea of feeling “locked in” to a carrier so I try to take straight cash trade in offers or discounts instead.

Did you contact Verizon and see if you could go back to your old plan? Tell them you didn’t understand the fine print, which appears to be the case.

Verizon has always been shifty. Over time I have ended up on a 6GB plan that I want to hang on to. I usually don't even come close to using it all because most of the time we're at home and on wifi. I was watching the Verizon Facebook group after they announced their "nationwide 5G." The chief complaint is that people are getting phones like iPhone 12 and Galaxy Note 20/S20 but are unable to get 5G without switching over to one of their unlimited plans. I don't like Verizon, but they are the best and most consistent where I live, so I keep them. That and I get a small discount on my plan through work.
