So we know that the unlocked iPhone can't be used on CDMA networks such as Verizon or Sprint because that component is disabled.

However, how do you expect the Verizon/Sprint iPhone to react when you stick a sim card inside it? Will it be like the BB-Storm and automatically unlock so that you can use the SIM card? Or will you essentially never be able to use a Verizon/Sprint phone with a sim card outside the states?

My guess:

If the phone detects that it's been registered on a CDMA network, then it will search the airwaves for broadcasts originating from that CDMA network. It will only start paying attention to the GSM side of things if it detects that the CDMA airwaves are silent; otherwise (whenever CDMA service is available) the GSM side of things will be switched off.

If the phone detects that is is not registered on a CDMA network, then it will only pay attention to GSM.

I also suspect that, by default, the Verizon iPhone will be simlocked so it will only accept a Verizon-branded international roaming SIM.
