I am thinking out loud here. I wonder with iOS 5.0 if Apple will open up Facetime a bit more, maybe even a voice-only capability over 3G that once you are connected to another phone you can switch over to Facetime voip.
That would seem to me to workaround the simultaneous voice/data issue with Verizon. I mean, the Skype app already runs in the background and even has video calling over 3G. At the very least I would expect Skype calling to work simultaneous with other data apps on the Verizon iPhone. The way Apple is I would assume they would have people lean towards their offering than Skype.
