by free I mean eligible for an upgrade to get the 2-yr contract pricing if you extend yours!

Much like the early days with AT&T, you got 'unlimited' data. I will wager a guess that the iPhone 5 release will see the end of Verisons unlimited data. (you early adoptor's will be 'grandfathered' with the unlimited data to make you feel better, but no early upgrades)

My .02

No flippin way.

Personal experience indicates it will be very pricey.

Verizon shares Apples obsession with money.

If Verizon is smart then they will, because that's why most of the people held up from buying the ViPhone 4.

Definitely, they'll start out mildly annoyed and then beat you to death with an Android phone. Oh, sorry, I thought you said uprage, I have no idea what an uprade is. Oh, and they're not giving anyone a free phone, why would they?

Maybe a new VZW version won't come out til February 2012.
Even then they won't give you upgrade pricing halfway through a 2yr contract.

It is 100% guaranteed they will get the iPhone5 this summer with everyone else. I highly doubt they would want to be in a position selling an iPhone4 when their main competition is selling an iPhone5 for the same price.

Why should they?

There is no economic reason why VZW should do this. People jumped on the VZW phone and locked themselves into a 2 year contract. One thing I noticed during my tenure as a verizonwireless customer, they tend to nickle and dime you with charges. Just look at them getting rid unlimited bandwidth, and killing off he new every two program as well.

Nope, verizon wireless is not about to eat the cost of subsidized iphones, just for their customers to get an iPhone 5..

Is the reason that if a VZW wanted or was contemplating about an iPhone 5 they should have waited. Now VZW has an iPhone customer by the XYZ.

Why would they offer an upgrade or even a partial upgrade after 4 months? They can if they want but since you are in a 2 contract they most likely won't.

It's interesting that VZW launched the iPhone when they did in February and didn't wait til the summer. They wanted to lock you in and those that got an VZW iPhone as subsidized pricing are locked in. However maybe most VZW iPhone users don't care about the new iPhone 5 but I like to get the new version every year which is why I buy at full retail. The iPhone has the highest resale value. It cost me $200-$250/year to get a new iPhone every year(full retail- resale value).

I think the OP is talking about people that DID buy the verizon iPhone 4
...I think Verizon will allow them to upgrade for a nominal fee...and at the very least Radio shack will buy Verizon iPhone 4's to be used towards the purcahse of the 5
