It seems like this morning Verizon has changed the terms of their FREE* iPhone 6/6+ trade in in program.

Yesterday the program looked like this
Eligible: iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 5c / $200 Gift Card / Up to 2 Weeks

Today it was changed to this
Eligible: iPhone 4s, 5, 5s, 5c / $100 - $300

How does this trade-in promotion work?

You will receive a $200 VZW Trade-in Gift Card when you trade in your old iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, or iPhone 5c, and purchase a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus with a new Verizon Edge agreement, 2 year contract, or when you pay full retail price.

You will receive a $300 VZW Trade-in Gift Card when you trade in your old iPhone 5s and purchase a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus with a new Verizon Edge agreement, 2 year contract, or when you pay full retail price.

Once you submit your trade online, you will receive shipping materials to mail your old iPhone back to VZW.

Mail back your old iPhone in the shipping materials that were mailed to you after you receive your new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. Be aware of the 11/15 deadline for returning your old iPhone.

The Trade-In promotion is also available in Verizon Wireless Retail Stores from 9/12/14 thru 9/30/14.

What are the requirements to participate in this offer?

You must be purchasing either iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus on a new Verizon Edge agreement, 2 year contract, or when you pay full retail price. If you do not purchase iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, you’ will receive the normal trade-in value for your device.

Your iPhone trade-in can be from any carrier & must be in good working condition:

Phone can turn on and off.
LCD screen is free of cracks and functioning correctly.
Phone and connecting ports are free of visible corrosion and water damage.
Phone and charging port are free of cracks and dents, and not missing any pieces or chunks (not including cords or accessories).
For iPhones running iOS 7 or higher, the Find My iPhone feature must be deactivated (turned off) before iPhone is traded in.

Your account must be in good standing to participate in this trade-in offer.

Early Edge and Edge Up customers are not eligible for this promotion at this time.

When can I trade my old iPhone and purchase the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus?

Starting on 9/12/14 you can visit verizonwireless.com and place your preorder for the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

Once your purchase is complete, visit the online trade-in website to submit your trade request. You must submit your trade between 9/12/14 & 9/30/14 to receive this promotion.

Note: Only 1 iPhone can be traded in at this promotional value for each new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus purchased with a new Verizon Edge agreement, 2 year contract, or when you pay full retail price..

Government accounts are not eligible for this promotion.

Please allow up to 4-6 weeks from receipt of trade-in device for the Verizon Wireless Gift Card to arrive if trade-in was submitted online.

Great deal for the older phones, terrible deal for the newer.

$300 for my iPhone 5S 64GB? No way.

It appears that the trade in deal does NOT apply to an iPhone 4.

The 2nd link posted says:

•You will receive a $200 VZW Trade-in Gift Card when you trade in your old iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, or iPhone 5c, and purchase a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus with a new Verizon Edge agreement, 2 year contract, or when you pay full retail price.


•You will receive a $300 VZW Trade-in Gift Card when you trade in your old iPhone 5s and purchase a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus with a new Verizon Edge agreement, 2 year contract, or when you pay full retail price.

so it appears to me that if you want a cut and dry trade in, without doing the "Edge" thing (where you pay monthly for the device) you have to have a 4s or higher.

If you want to trade in an iPhone 4, the 2nd link states you'll have to sign up with the Edge agreement.

Thoughts from others?
 
At this point the original offer from yesterday has been reported about in the news and in online media sources. They cannot now go back and say sorry, this offer does not include the iPhone 4 or they'll get torched! :cool:

I plan on trading in my 4 so i hope this is true. Im sure bitching at a few customer service reps should do the trick.

I plan on trading in my 4 so i hope this is true. Im sure bitching at a few customer service reps should do the trick.

Ahhh good eye... so I wonder which link is right?!

Does that mean you have to pay the full contract price or full price first, and then you get the "Verizon gift card", or do you get $200 off the purchase of the phone?

Edit: Nevermind, I think I got it. They give you the card after you pay for the phone. Kind of janky. Where can you use this "verizon gift card", at verizon?

That's another question mark in the whole thing. I've heard it'll be a separately-mailed gift card (like a prepaid master card)

According to the site:

...makes me think you can buy from Apple (my preferred vendor) and as long as you upgrade your contract at purchase and re-sign a 2 year, you can then go on VZW's trade in site and initiate the trade in promo offer.

I wonder if you have to buy from VZW to get the offer...

But you (we) would be getting $300 plus out of our 2 year contract. Isn't that worth something?

(I'm not being rhetorical - I'm trying to figure this out)

Verizon page doesn't have the option to preorder at full price?? how do it pre-order at full price?? http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/device/smartphone/iphone
 
You will have to pay for the iPhone upfront on the 12th and then it looks like the gift card will be mailed a few weeks after. Which you can then apply to your bill. all assumptions at this point
 
Wondering if I can preorder and have sent to store for pick up and trade in of old phone. College kid with ****** mail room hours to pick up packages and to actually send the phone back requires a drive to the real post office, not the mail room. Would feel safer if picked up in store as well to ensure that if something is jacked up I can get it straightened out there, immediately. (I'm unlucky, don't want to be stuck with a dud phone).
 
I just did a trade in appraisal here: https://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/splash/electronicdevicerecycling.jsp and they are only giving me $100 for my 4S now, instead of $200 (a promo value is included in the $100). I'm going to be very disappointed if they are really going back on their original offer. First their marketing with the edge program was terrible and now this? I love my service but this might make me change my mind about staying with VZ.

Since they already advertised the original i think they are going to have to honor it. It has been published online by huge new sites.
 
I have no problem fighting to get the original offer, but why should we have to? It now states they can offer $100-$300. I tweeted at them to see if I can get a response and ATT, Sprint, and Tmobile reached out to me to up their offer. Verizon has yet to respond.
 
I'm adding a line of service right now and got the iPhone 6 this way. Im not 100% sure if I need the line (sister who needs the line may leave the country) and will cancel pay cancelation fees if I don't need it but still want to keep the iPhone 6, will the $200 still apply as I am paying the cancelation fee and the initial cost of the phone and wouldn't be returning it?

I just used that exact same link and a 4s (granted, I picked the 16 GB Verizon 4s from the list, but it still) still nets $200. An iPhone 4 still does as well.
