Looking for some answers on I can do this, with less cost on my part

Got the iPhone 7 last year on launch date from Verizon. I traded my 6 to get 7, for 24 equal monthly payments. My iPhone7 is upgrade eligible as I have paid off 50% and it says so online.

My spouse phone is paid off and is waiting for an upgrade and is transfer eligible.

This is what I am thinking ..
Transfer upgrade from my spouse phone to my phone and hoping she can keep my iPhone 7 on her line.
Get a iPhone 8 during the transfer process..

Did anyone do this? I wanted to know if she can keep iPhone7 which was paid off 50% and if I can get a new iPhone? Will the new iPhone cost me payments from my pocket, I think it does, but not sure?

Just upgrade her line to the 8 and when you get the phone, put your sim card in the 8, and her sim card in the 7.

Not sure how exactly transferring upgrades works now with payment plans, but I'm pretty sure the new payment plan will be tied to her line no matter what.

I am still confused on how the transfer upgrade works. Anyone did this?
