For those of you with Verizon and bluetooth you know that Verizon did not include the OBEX profile to allow transfers of mp3's as ringers and photo's as wallpaper to force you to buy it from them. By doing this it messed with iSync and you couldn't sync your contacts and calander. You could do so to an extent using the usb cable but I believe it was either iCal or your address book but not both. Well someone figured out how to do it so those of you with V710's rejoice. Not sure if this will work on treo's or if they even have the same issue. All your basically doing is telling the computer to use the bluetooth driver instead and changing a hex number which probably has something to do with memory.

1. Remove any attempted V710 connection from iSync and in the Bluetooth Preferences
2. right click (control click) on the iSync icon and choose show contents
3. Work your way to the Contents: PlugIns: ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice: Contents: PlugIns: PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin: Contents: Resources: folder and double click MetaClasses.plist
4. Open the file with text edit and search for V710
5. look for the line of code with a hex number and a reference to a usb driver and replace it with this: "<string>com.motorola.usb-bt.0x22B8/0x4902<string>" with no quotes.
6. Save the file
7. Now setup a new device in the bluetooth preferences.
8. Then attempt to connect to the V710 with iSync and that's it!!!!!
We now have iCal appointments and Address Book syncing!

Syncing To Dos as well as contacts & calendar?

Thanks for step-by-step instructions for setting up the V710 for syncing. Does this sync the To Dos in iCal as well as the appointments?

I tried this a few weeks back. I found that it didn't sync contacts, but did sync datebook items. Then my phone died, and I got a new one. Just for the heck of it, I tried a BT sync. Contacts synced fine. But, after that initial sync, it won't sync contacts anymore, like before. So, for me, contact syncing only works when the phone has an empty phonebook. Well, I guess this unreliability is why BT syncing isn't available by default from Apple.

I don't mind too much though, as I only need datebook (iCal) syncing. Oddly enough, Motorola's MPT software syncs fine on Windows, and a program called OnSync (Mac) syncs contacts fine too.

This does not sync "To do" items, as there is nowhere on the phone for them.

Sorry to hear about your issues. My phone still works fine. Check to see if there are any setting which allow to syn from computer to phone only instead of the other way around. I can't really tell you right now becaue I am away from my computer. But, everything is working fine for me. When you synced with the pc using MPT did you use a cable?

I just tried this and it did not work. Further, whenever I hook the phone up via USB and try to sync my contacts from Address Book, none of them show up. Any ideas?

i have no clue how to sync my telus v710, maybe this will work though

I got a Motorola E815 and I'm hoping things are similar. But I can't even find the folders you're talking about on my Mac. When I Ctrl-click on iSync I get Show Package Contents. Click on that and I don't see a PlugIns folder. I also just searched my whole hard drive for MetaClasses.plist and there's no such document on my Mac. Am I doing something wrong? I have a G4 running 10.3.9
Thanks

I'd like to see if this will allow adressbook sync on a ROKR.

LOL they took the time to put iTunes on it but it can't even sync with Address book/iCal? Many...more of a need for an iPhone.

Almost, but no Cigar...

Thanx for the great advice on how to sync the v710 with the mac. It works now, but not completely... and I've still got some questions. Isync now recognizes my v710, however, when I try to sync the two, I always get a message "The connection was lost while getting the changes from the device." I'm certain I modified the plist file correctly, but there are still some problems. Any more advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, it's not a verizon v710. I just got it from Telus here in Canada.
Could it be a problem with the specific firmware of the phone?

Happy New Years!!!
Cheers,
-Lech

Just for an update, 10.4.6 break all of this V710 Bluetooth functionality. There is another hack, though.

MacOSXHints

I tried to hack this myself before finding that article and I seem to have b0rked my plist file, so remember to back up kiddies.
